Then came my mom, who started her education at Biola Bible College in Southern California and completed a three-year Rn degree in L.A. County hospital. By early 1950’s clinical hospital nursing programs were popular, on the job training. Her career in nursing demonstrated caring advocacy in her specialty of pediatrics. Working as a voice for her young patients, and finding the value of hospital nursing in her natural. . all patients deserve the best educated workforce (AACN, 2011, April,14). My education has already started impacting my daily approach to my patients, so my BSN will include involvement with decision making, planning, implementing care, education, and counseling for my future career. Examples of theories used in communication include; Cognitive Dissonance Theory, which reasons that people are discouraged from taking part in conversations involving discordant beliefs, as they seem aversive, Communication Accommodation Theory, which describes impacts of what ensues when two or more speakers shift their communication styles and the Cultural Studies Theory. This article tends to show the importance of these theories, and how they can be applied in a communication event. Communication Event Depending on the purpose of communication, communication can be between two or more people, or between a person and an organization or between two or more organizations. People or organizations can hold conferences or meetings to relay information to the recipients. A company held an event and invited some members of the public, who were mostly its client. The event was later filled with clients, the company's employees, media personalities and its shareholders. The purpose of the event was to communicate the company's strategies, ideas, and its concepts, as well as get different feedback from the clients (Argenti 2015, p.1). Media personalities held interviews and helped in relaying messages out to a large number of people (Savic 2016, p.609). The event engaged the public, thus captivating them and at the same time, managed to convey important messages. Conversations were held between the clients and the employees, the companys managers and directors with the media and clients (Cooren 2016, p. 395). From the different conversations held, it was evident that behaviors, like maintaining eye contact, showing of interest, avoiding of distractions and asking questions, demonstrated if one was a good listener or not. Good listening is important as it attaches meaning on what is heard. On the other hand, the recipients' feedback were relayed differently. Some were specific, and to the point, other people got personal and deviated a little from the main topic of conversation and others gave negative feedback. Timing was essential, especially when the media personnel held short interviews with some attendees. Non-verbal communication, also known as the kinesics, was also observed in the event; the facial communication, which displayed messages of emotion, the eye communication, and communication through touch like greetings (Burgoon et al. 2 016, p. 2). Paralinguistic was also noted. Theories such as the Cognitive Dissonance Theory, Communication Accommodation Theory, and Cultural Studies theory were used in these different ways of communication. Usefulness of Theories The Cognitive Dissonance theory focuses on the idea that people seek consistency in their attitudes and beliefs in situations where cognitions are not consistent. This causes the introduction of motives that sustain intellectual evenness and thus giving rise to unreasonable and maladaptive behaviors (Martin Clore 2013, p.10). Different people met for the event, and they held various conversations concerning different things in general. It was observed that many of them chose to avoid hearing views that opposed their beliefs. Furthermore, others changed their beliefs so as to match their actions, which forced them to seek reassurance after making decisions that were difficult on their side. Other people however stuck to what they believed and did not try to harmonize the heated conversations between their various beliefs. This led to the emergence of conflicts. Most company employees were noted to have exercised the cognitive dissonance theory to please the clients. The company manag ers too upheld this theory so as to please the company's shareholders. The Communication Accommodation Theory is viewed as a hypothetical theory that is used in examining the consequences and enthusiasms of what comes from two or more speakers alter their communication styles. It is related to the Social Identity Theory and is all about people minimizing social differences by adjusting their communicating ways. This theory argues that people would try to regulate or billet their speaking styles to others and how they would want to positively portray their identities to others (Gallois Giles 2015, p. 2). People in the social event had to adjust their communication styles depending on the different groups they were conversing with. For example, young people in the event had to change the way they addressed the elder people; the employees had to alter their styles depending on how the client talked or gestured. The company's managers and staff had to strive to create an affirmative appearance of themselves, which reflected the company's image. This was do ne by use of words and actions. Theoreticians in the Cultural Studies Theory uphold the fact that the media personnel represents creeds of the principal class in a societal organization. Street Car The play A Streetcar Named Desire made playwright Tennessee William's name and has deservedly since had over half a century of success. This remarkable success can be credited to the intricate characters and their interactions with each other. Sisters, Stella and Blanche have had an enjoyable upbringing on the family plantation, Belle Reve. As the name suggests Stella and Blanche's time at Belle Reve was near perfect. Like all things perfect it had to come to an end. While Stella did the logical thing and left the 'beautiful dream' and married Stan, Blanche hung on to it unable to move on and face reality. Blanche comes to Stella in an unbalanced state of mind in need of her sister's aid. The impression is given that this isn't the first time Stella has been there to help Blanche through a time of trouble. As much as she needs her help and as much as she respects her, Blanche strongly disapproves of her sister's new life. Stella tolerates Blanche's continual criticism of her husband, home and friends very well. From this and many other incidents throughout the play we see what a tolerant and adaptable person Stella is. Stan and Stella's relationship is far from ideal. Stan is a violent man. On occasions he hits Stella, but comes after her to satisfy his sexual needs. This is not to say that Stella is unhappy in her marriage to Stan. She has adapted to the way of life in Elysian Fields where it's accepted that women have arguments with their husbands and as a result are hit by them. Eunice and Steve have a similar relationship it is normal. Despite their violent relationship Stella relies on Stan as much as he does on her. Stella really does need Stan and the security he provides, especially with a baby on the way. Even if she weren't expecting a child Stella would have a lot of trouble leaving Stan. She admits to Blanche that, I can hardly stand it when he is away for a night?and when he comes back I cry on his lap like a baby. From the moment Blanche first came to stay at Stella and Stan's home she posed a threat to Stan. He was used to being the only one Stella cared for, the one who ruled her. He wasn't happy that somebody he had never met could move into his own territory and while residing there, treat him as an inferior and call him a survivor of the Stone Age. He felt so threatened by her presence that he competed for dominance over Stella, unfairly. He overstepped the boundaries on several occasions. He went through Blanche's personal belongings, he spread malicious gossip about Blanche's past ruining any hopes she had for a future with Mitch and in one last final act to ensure he had won he raped her. Stan appears not to feel any guilt whatsoever for his acts that led to the complete mental destruction of Blanche. Stella had to choose between her sister and her husband. There is no way that two people as incompatible as Stan and Blanche could live comfortably around each other. For a considerable amount of time Stella did her best to support both Blanche and Stan, negotiating middle ground. However, this couldn't last for long because they were forever competing with each other, the ultimate prize being Stella. Stella chooses to ignore the truth about Stan's sexual assault on Blanche. This could either be a result of his incredible power over her, or the fact that she sees the future would be a lot easier for her, her child and Blanche should she stay with Stan and let Blanche be committed to a mental asylum. A Streetcar Named Desire would hardly have a story if the characters weren't so complex and didn't interact with each other in the way in which they do. It's the intriguing fragile character of Blanche, the amazing tolerant, adaptable Stella and the power and sex driven Stanley that makes the play so interesting. And then tension between Stan and Blanche, Stella's test of what is thicker: water or blood? -All of these things brought up by the strong personalities

My curiosity is met with a confused stare and a response along the lines of, what do you mean? This was the first time I realized that the way I perceive things is different than that of my peers. It was also the first in a long line of questions that I eventually just stopped asking. Up until the age of twelve, I felt like an outsider. It wasn ' t a loneliness issue I had plenty of friends. The dilemma was that I didn't understand how no ne of them saw colors, shapes, and patterns when they listened to music ; why to me, the month of July was an aggressive shade of orange and tasted li ke cream soda while to them , it was simply July. I couldn ' t comprehend the thought of Wednesday adjusting itself anywhere but above one ' s left nostril, couldn ' t wrap my head around the notion of a stomachache being anything but warped and winding wisps of yellow and blue. My seeing and feeling things this way may not sound like it was overly detrimental to my wellbeing during my developmental years because, at a surface level, it wasn ' t. After all, there was no real communication barrier, and physically (besides a nasty habit of walking on my toes) I was just as able as everyone else. Censoring Pleas for Help Essay In Dwight Lee’s essay, â€Å"Censoring Pleas for Help,† the Georgia-based economics professor notes the strange contradiction between popular opposition to censorship and widespread support of price controls. Lee’s primary contention with this political dissonance is that it is not only ethically inconsistent, but reflects an oversight of how markets help communicate economic needs, particularly with regards to the sudden needs which emerge in the wake of natural disasters. Much of the support for price controls stems from fear of â€Å"price gouging,† which is essentially occurs when suppliers attempt to take advantage of sudden demand by raising prices to maximize profit during the period of demand. Lee notes that in his home state, there exists a price gouging law which is designed to prevent such a situation from happening by forbidding suppliers from charging more for their goods than they did the day before a disaster strikes. Lee notes that: â€Å"[†¦] building contractors and construction supplies from several states had poured into Atlanta immediately after it suffered massive tornado damage. Can anyone seriously believe that this help would have poured in from far away if the â€Å"price gouging† law had been perfectly enforced, or that the help was not reduced by the enforcement that had occurred?† (Lee 1999) The crux of Lee’s argument is that price controls are essentially a form of economic censorship which restricts the ability of prices to communicate market demands. To that end, he argues that prices are better understood as the most efficient means by which markets, such as disaster victims, communicate their need for help in the form of resources and supplies. This is not to devalue the contributions and assistance that some have provided for free, but the economic distinction made above between humanitarian aid and supply-demand response is not a trivial one. While those who provide supplies for free are to be commended, it is important to recognize the potential mistake in relying on altruism and humanitarian sensitivity as the primary forces driving resource redistribution. Such a view presumes that humanitarian aid is an objective force that responds to the needs of disaster victims efficiently. In effect, Lee’s argument is that while high prices should not be raised to wildly disproportionate levels,   allowing them to fluctuate free of price controls ensures that they can communicate needs more efficiently, for â€Å"high prices [†¦] insure that pleas for help will be met with a quick and effective response.† Complementary to his point, Lee observes that price controls censor this economic communication and effectively disrupt the ability of customers to express their needs. He notes that in Charleston, price controls prevented a local hardware store from legally being able to sell generators at a higher price nor could the locals communicate their demand to outside suppliers of generators. The result was that one hardware store owner sold one of only two generators in his possession to a friend, at the expense of groceries with a greater demand in the form of thousands of dollars worth of food that needed refrigeration. Simply put, humanitarian aid relies on the initiative of those with the resources and the sense of philanthropy to contribute to disaster relief, which is all well and good, but does not compare to the efficacy of free moving prices in expressing the demands that emerge in the wake of a natural disaster. As far as economics are concerned, price controls merely censor the ability of these sudden emergent markets to communicate those demands. The oldest group of Old Order Amish, about 16-18,000 people live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Amish stress humility, family, community, and separation from the world. Although Lancaster Amish is Pennsylvania Dutch, all Pennsylvania Dutch are not Amish. The Pennsylvania Dutch are natives of Central Pennsylvania, particularly Lancaster and its surrounding counties. The Affordable Health Care Act is a very in-depth process. The changes to the health care system were attempted to be passed in prior years by Bill Clinton. However, it failed at this time and was implemented in the United States by the current president Barack Obama. The Congress diversity of Democrats vs. Republican’s was very similar in both Clintons and Obamas time in office. There were many steps that were taken in creating this policy, and some of those steps succeeded, and some of those steps failed. Any new process would be expected to have some issues to work through as it was created. The Affordable Health Care Act still has some issues to work on, but many steps succeeded and that is why it has been implemented during Obamas term. Health Care Reform was in some ways similar in both Obama and Clinton’s proposals, but greatly different as well. Clinton’s main focus in the policy was to make health care mandatory for all Americans and have universal coverage. Employers would pay 80 percent of the cost of health insurance premiums, with the employee covering the remaining costs (Khan, 2014). However, both policies have the same goal of providing health insurance to all people. Each policy creates the ways of completing this task differently. Clinton’s health care reform plan was very complex. It involved high levels of government involvement in the health care industry. A federal national health board would have overseen the health system, and would be tasked with regulating premiums and overseeing benefits (Khan, 2014). Health care alliances at the state level would conduct a similar task, and states would have had the authority to regulate plans and have the option to create a single-payer system (Khan, 2014). The policy would be more of a government takeover, than assisting Americans with health  insurance. This was something that was not found to be favorable by many stakeholders. Obama’s reform allows for people with private insurance to keep their insurance. He is creating a government insurance company to compete with the private insurance companies. However, Obama still faces struggles with Republicans being opposed to this idea as well. The concern of finances was also purposed similar in both policy creations. Both presidents plan on the bill not adding to the deficit of the country. Another similarity between the two plans was that insurances companies could no longer deny a client because of their previous medical conditions. This has been another successful step in the process. Health Care Reform was created very similar but still with great differences between each president. The Affordable Health Care Act was successful for Obama mostly because of the way he pushed the bill through congress. Obama used Clinton’s health care reform failures as lessons and a blueprint of what not to do. This made him about to learn from past failure and make changes along the way. Different steps were taken in creating both of the policies. As Clinton moved slowly on this policy, Obama pushed his through quickly (Oberlander, 2014). Moving quickly was a decision that helped the policy succeeding, whereas, moving slowly caused it to fail. However, both presidents did pitch their speech about the Affordable Health Care Act before a joint session of Congress. This was not a successful step for either president. Both Obama and Clinton did not have great support for the policy, and this caused great suffering. Obama allowed for alternative methods in this policy whereas Clinton did not. Although both presidents had a wonderful idea, the steps that they took in implementing the policy are what changed the success of it. Both policies have similar stakeholders. When discussing health care insurance the stakeholders do not often change because the policies were slightly different. Stakeholders consist of business, insurance companies, and the American Medical Association. Other stakeholders consist of the people of the United States of America. There was much skepticism about the policy plans that both presidents were rolling out by the people of America. It is important that the presidents did not only look at stakeholders of large companies, but the everyday people of the community and employees of the health care industry as stakeholders as well. There were also government stakeholders in both  policies. However, the government level of stakeholders was greater in Clinton’s policy because his consist of government takeover. Stakeholders are crucial to the success of any policy. The Affordable Health Care Act has so far been successfully implemented by Obama. However, like any other new policy there are some issues still to be worked on. Obama was a success on passing this policy because he used the mistakes of the past to make his policy succeed. Even though there were struggles and steps that failed in Obama’s plan as well, there were more that succeed. Clinton’s policy was more government based and had many failures. The stakeholders for both presidents’ policies were similar. The Affordable Health Care Act has been in progress by many presidents for many years.
